Three FAQs about luxury vinyl flooring maintenance

Three FAQs about luxury vinyl flooring maintenance

You'll love the style of luxury vinyl flooring. It's also affordable, waterproof, durable, affordable and has an easy installation.

This flooring is also low maintenance. However, that's not to say that it never needs any attention.

Keep in mind that luxury vinyl flooring is cut into two forms: plank (LVP flooring) and square, tile-sized pieces (LVT flooring).

No matter. It's still luxury vinyl, and the different forms have the exact cleaning requirements.

How often should I sweep?

Sweep several times a week, but daily if possible. This is very important because sand and dirt are sharp and will scratch.

Soil can also embed into little cracks and scratches on the LVT or vinyl plank flooring. This is called pitting, and it makes cleaning very difficult!

What should I avoid when I mop?

Avoid excess water. All luxury vinyl flooring is entirely waterproof, but it's a mistake to think water has no germs.

Wring the mop entirely and changing the water frequently. Don't spread the germs and dirt around. Also, too much water leaves water spots and a hazy film.

Avoid sponge mops, as they tend to push the dirt around. Instead, it's best to use a mop with a microfiber head.

Avoid waxy, shine-promoting cleaners. They damage the finish and dull the LVT or LVP flooring.

Always use a manufacturer-approved cleaner. The list can be found on a warranty or company website.

How do I get rid of pitting or stubborn stains?

Drip some approved cleaner onto the pitted area. Let it stand for about five minutes, then wipe it with a clean towel or microfiber cloth. You may need to do it several times.

Tough stains can usually be removed with baking soda/water paste, nail polish remover, or alcohol. Scuffs are eliminated with WD-40.
